Folks, I was in the middle of writing my “China’s low-trust society” series before the trade war broke out, so I have to pause to write about the war first.
I want to finish the series, and I will finish it. However, I have run into a small problem for now. In Part 3 of the series, I plan to explore the relationship between this concept and the political system of China. However, at this point, I can’t say I have fully thought it through. Maybe I am 70% ready, but not all of it. I’d rather finish it when I am 100% ready.
On the other hand, there is a topic that I have thought through. I can finish it at any time. This will be a thorough discussion of the widely believed idea that “the Party does not equal the country, and does not equal the people”. I want to discuss to what extent this idea is useful and to what extent it is not. This topic is very relevant to current affairs too, as at least part of this ridiculous tariff war (as well as many US policies about China) is based on the premise that when enough pressure is applied, the Chinese people will rise up against the ruling party.
As always, the choice is yours. The poll closes in 3 days:
Your series was extremely informative and very well written and unbiased. Looking forward to your next articles 🙂
I am new here and do not have a sense for which article would be more interesting but honestly, based on what I have read so far, I think both essays will be a valuable education for me and I want you to be happy with them before putting them out. I think you ought to pursue whichever one is most meaningful to you and do not let the noise of current events push you around. I look forward to reading what you have next. :)
