No formal review this week
But there is a poll at the end to nominate your most wanted topic
Hi all, it has been an exhausting week and there will be no formal weekly review for this week. However, if you are interested in the latest developments in China’s venture capital industry and entrepreneurship landscape, you may want to read my latest article at Baiguan, “Why are China's venture capital funds acquiring publicly listed companies?” This will be a great companion reading for the new Financial Times story about VC funds hounding founders for redemptions, a phenomenon that I already wrote about almost a year ago.
Again, if you are a paying subscriber of Baiguan, please contact me for complimentary access to this newsletter if you haven’t done so already.
I almost never say it publicly, but the difference between Baiguan and China Translated is that the former will focus very much on business and investment opportunities (a.k.a helping you make money), with lots of data. This newsletter, however, is my personal take on broader and sometimes more sensitive topics that can 1) help you better understand what is really going on here and 2) focus on events with a long-term impact so you can put them within the right context.
This week, despite Trump’s Greenland ambitions and California’s wildfires taking the world’s attention, a lot is happening in China, too. So next week, if I do a real review, I will also include some events of this week. Of all the events below, which one do you want me to write on the most?
