“Trump exempts smartphones and computers from new tariffs” Whoa…. The capitulation comes fast! I am lucky to send out this letter before this news, otherwise I would have to rewrite the whole thing.
Robert. do you know that I bought a spare laptop yesterday anticipating rising computer prices? Our stupid crazy president has impacted me! I hope you realize how embarrassed millions of Americans are by our Moron in Chief. Our faces are red.
I love the picture! Greetings from Germany, where most of people have one grumpy awakening! I am glad you elaborated on the questions, but I found them to be clear retorical statements, without the need for further exploration!
in China, low consumption / purchasing power and high manufacturing and export capacity are two sides of the same coin. without low wages and high savings (hence low financing cost for corporations), Chinese manufacturers wouldnt have been so competitive.
in the US, on the other hand, high consumption and stable dollar are the two sides of the same coin. without consuming global production at such a massive scale and paying the dollar in return, there wouldnt have been so much demand for US financial assets, esp Treasuries. what else are the rest of the world gonna do with the $ in their hands?
in a sense, having a strong manufacturing industry and having the world's reserve currency are inherently conflicts. Trump can't have his cake and eat it, or in chinese, ji yao you yao.
Excellent article. I am proud of the PRC for standing up to what is in effect gangster tactics by the USA, Trump acting like a Mafia-don, demanding 'respect' from other countries, expecting them to 'kiss his ass', to pay protection money (tariffs) to do business in his neighborhood. I hope that the EU and other countries join with the PRC to batter the US economy and force the dollar off its pedestal.

I do. I am very careful to differentiate here. I call this a Trump-China trade war. Truly embarrassing for all the people around the world
This is getting incomprehensible.

I think game theory (and evolutionary biology) teaches us the best strategy is to”tit-for-tat with forgiveness”. Just don’t escalate.
I love that meme photo too. “I got this”
