Your comment about city identification made me think about Fujian. How do they handle the major linguistic divide? Also, how do Hakka handle it when they are split across several provinces?

I love this really interesting article! Best wishes for the Chinese people to develop their soccer enthusiasm and anything else that deepens their rising lives.

I think that fun of this sort anchors people in their identity. It’s one thing to know your history, another to play with it and bond with your peers.

I was super disappointed to see China lose against Indonesia and not make it to next year’s World Cup. Hopefully Chinese football continues to grow, maybe with an eventual WC in the Middle Kingdom.

This is heartening to read. Ever since China began its footballing ambitions, many countries have followed suit. They all threw big money in the hopes of a quick turnaround only to realise that it doesn’t work. Football is as much a culture, a way of living, as it is a sport. A culture that’s steeped in tribe-like rivalries and strong local support.

With the success of this league, maybe it kicks off something sustainable not just in China but across Asia.
